Argan Oil
INCI: Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil
A lightweight plant oil rich in fatty acids and vitamin E.
Often used for
- Softens hair and skin
- Adds shine without heaviness
Suits: Dry, Normal, All hair types
Use sparingly on fine hair to avoid weighing it down.
Centella Asiatica
INCI: Centella Asiatica Extract
A botanical extract widely used in soothing formulas.
Often used for
- Calming
- Comforting for reactive skin
Suits: Sensitive, Dry, All skin types
Generally well tolerated. Patch test if you react to botanicals.
Ceramides
INCI: Ceramide NP
Lipids that occur naturally in the skin barrier.
Often used for
- Supports barrier repair
- Reduces water loss
Suits: Dry, Sensitive, All skin types
No known common cautions.
Hyaluronic Acid
INCI: Sodium Hyaluronate
A humectant that binds water in the upper layers of the skin.
Often used for
- Adds immediate hydration
- Softens the look of fine lines
Suits: All skin types
In very dry air, apply to damp skin and seal with a moisturiser.
Niacinamide
A form of vitamin B3 studied for oil balance, uneven tone and barrier support.
Often used for
- Helps visibly even skin tone
- Supports the skin barrier
- Often well tolerated
Suits: Oily, Combination, Normal
Very high concentrations can cause flushing in some people. Introduce gradually.
Retinol
A vitamin A derivative used at night for texture and fine lines.
Often used for
- Smooths texture over time
- Supports cell turnover
Suits: Normal, Oily
Start twice weekly. Always pair with daily sunscreen. Avoid during pregnancy — consult a doctor.
Salicylic Acid
An oil-soluble BHA used to loosen debris inside the pore.
Often used for
- Helps clear congestion
- Smooths texture
Suits: Oily, Combination
Can be drying. Not recommended during pregnancy without medical advice.
Vitamin C
INCI: Ascorbic Acid
An antioxidant used in the morning for brightness and environmental defence.
Often used for
- Brightening
- Antioxidant protection
Suits: Normal, Combination, Oily
Oxidises with light and air. Store closed and away from sun.
